Affiliate tracker for Google Ads: what to check before choosing
A buying checklist for Google Ads affiliates who need to see actual network conversions and improve the landing pages behind their campaigns.
Choose an affiliate tracker for Google Ads by testing a real conversion chain. The tracker needs to capture the Google ad identifier, create an offer-click ID, match the affiliate network's callback, and return the verified event to the correct Google conversion action. A report of landing-page visits alone cannot tell you which ads earned commission.
Tracked adds the page workflow to that chain. You can host the landing page, route its offers, inspect attributed conversions, and edit the page from the campaign workspace. Its Google connection supports offline click-conversion delivery through the Data Manager API.

Use five buying checks before comparing dashboards
| Requirement | Evidence to request or test |
|---|---|
| Capture the Google ad identifier | A real eligible ad click retains gclid, gbraid, or wbraid on the stored visit. |
| Match the network conversion | The returned tracker ID resolves to the original campaign and selected offer. |
| Deliver the conversion to Google | The event targets the correct enabled conversion action and has a provider delivery result. |
| Explain value and time | Payout, currency, conversion timestamp, and event meaning match the business record. |
| Connect the landing page to the result | Page and offer reports let you investigate the route and change the relevant page. |
Ask to see the failure states too. A tracker should make it possible to distinguish an absent network callback, an unmatched click, an event waiting for delivery, and a provider rejection. Those failures need different fixes.
You need both the Google ID and the tracker ID
The Google identifier ties a later event to the original ad click. The tracker identifier connects the affiliate network's sale to your offer click. Preserve both rather than putting the same value into every field.
UTMs provide useful campaign and creative labels. They do not replace the individual identifiers needed for click-based attribution. If your ad destination has several redirects, inspect the final landing-page request and stored click to confirm capture. A template that contains gclid is weaker evidence than an actual saved click containing Google's supplied value.
Tracked stores the Google identifier with the visit and uses {{click.id}} to pass its offer-click ID to the affiliate link. The network returns the latter through Tracked's generic postback. Tracked can then use the stored Google identifier for the separate offline delivery. See Google Ads offline conversion setup for the configuration steps.
Define the event you want Google to learn from
For an affiliate campaign, a page CTA is often a signal of interest. It is not proof of a paid sale or payable lead. Decide whether the network's callback represents the primary sale, an initial lead, or another funnel event before mapping it to Google.
Use distinct conversion actions when the meanings differ. A free signup and an approved purchase should not become the same event because they share a campaign. Also decide whether the monetary value is your commission, order value, or an agreed lead value. Keep that definition consistent across the network, tracker, and ad account.
Google's Data Manager documentation separates offline conversions from other event-ingestion uses. In Tracked, this workflow uses an enabled UPLOAD_CLICKS action owned by the Google conversion customer. It sends stored click identifiers, event time, value, currency, and a conversion identifier, subject to the applicable consent state.
Tracked's current click-based upload does not send hashed customer identifiers. Enhanced conversions for leads is a separate capability, so do not treat any mention of "Google CAPI" as proof that an enhanced-conversions workflow is included.
Check the affiliate network's callback before connecting Google
The network needs a supported field that stores Tracked's {{click.id}} and a callback macro that returns it. An account connector is not always necessary: a verified S2S postback can provide the sale signal. But a tracker cannot repair an ID the network never stored.
For a ClickBank campaign, use the ClickBank and Google Ads guide. For other networks, confirm the exact link field, callback format, available payout, and test procedure. Do not assume a ClickBank token also works for BuyGoods, Digistore24, or another platform.
First prove the conversion appears under the right Tracked click. Then prove the Google action mapping and provider delivery. Keeping those two checks explicit makes troubleshooting much faster.
Choose a tracker that lets you act on page results
Once attribution works, a media buyer needs to make the next change. Tracked keeps supported hosted HTML/ZIP pages and their editing alongside campaign routes and reports. That lets you investigate a page's offer clicks and conversions, then change its headline, CTA, or offer framing in the same workspace.
Use weighted page variations for a controlled test and keep the audience, offer, and callback stable. Compare downstream outcomes after allowing for conversion delay. A variation with more CTA clicks may still generate less commission. Weighted routing is a configured traffic split; it does not automatically pick a winner.
Hosting is also a practical buying check. Verify that the page's assets load on the intended custom domain, mobile CTAs follow the tracked offer route, and third-party forms preserve the values they need. A feature checklist cannot substitute for that test.
Run a small acceptance test
Before committing a campaign's spend, walk through one traceable path:
- Use a permitted provider test flow or a real eligible ad click and confirm its Google identifier was captured. An invented ID only tests local handling.
- Follow the landing page's CTA and confirm the network received a real Tracked offer-click ID.
- Receive an authorized network test event and check its click match, event meaning, payout, currency, and time.
- Verify the enabled Google action and destination account, then inspect delivery and Google's diagnostics.
- Compare campaign cost and payout in a consistent date window. Confirm any spend connection and source campaign mapping separately.
Google's acceptance and attribution are separate from an HTTP success or a queued event. Inspect both before assuming the data can support reporting or bidding decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track affiliate sales from Google Ads without a pixel on the advertiser's checkout?
Yes, when the affiliate network stores the tracker ID and returns a valid S2S conversion callback. A separate Google offline upload can then connect that event to the captured ad identifier.
Is GA4 enough for an affiliate campaign?
GA4 can measure activity you instrument. The buying question is whether your setup also receives the network's verified conversion and matches it to the originating click. If that chain is missing, a page report alone will not supply affiliate commission attribution.
Does Tracked support Google Ads offline conversions?
Yes. Its current Google path sends click-based offline events through the Data Manager API to configured eligible actions. Setup, captured identifiers, consent state, and delivery results still need to be verified for your campaign.
Does Tracked's Google integration guarantee Google approves my affiliate ads?
No. Conversion measurement and ad eligibility are separate. Confirm the offer, destination, and ad-account requirements for the campaign you intend to run.
